5 Things I loved about IIT Bombay CSE

Tue Feb 7, 2023

1. Intelligent Peer Group

Well, this is obvious but most people still don't realise how special the peer group at IITs really is. We are talking about people who are in the top 100 position among 10 lakh+ people. This is INSANELY hard. This is similar to difficulty level of getting into an Olympic participation spot (if not harder).

When you are in this peer group, you will definitely feel challenged. No matter how successful you are, there will be someone better than you and it really pushes you to your limits.

2. Amazing Infrastructure

I have been to a lot of colleges as a speaker and have visited ample number of campuses, including some very big colleges. But none of them compare to what IIT Bombay has to offer.

The CSE building in IIT Bombay is one of the best made educational buildings in India. The power of the computers, the professor premises, the classrooms - everything is just SUPER PREMIUM.

When you sit there and study, you feel so energised and want to study as much as you can.

3. Practical approach

A lot of colleges in India (in fact all educational institutes, be it schools or coaching or colleges) focus on theoretical learning.

IIT Bombay has lots of laboratories, practical assignments, practical exams and lab sessions to teach you hands-on stuff, not just mugging up formulae. This is immensely useful during campus placements as companies need practical skills.

4. Lots of activities

One of the misconceptions about IITs are that they are boring, full of academics and nerds. This is far from true, and probably a means to cope by those who couldn't make it to IITs ("IITians are nerds, we don't want to be them!").

IIT Bombay has a club for literally everything under the sun - music, dance, anime, comedy, fashion, entrepreneurship, astronomy, and even Rubik's cube!

This enables pursuing your hobby to the highest extent, maybe build a career in it as well, and at least make friends.

5. Brilliant Network

One of the best thing about IITs is the alumni network. Everyone knows that IITians are successful. Many end up starting their companies or attaining high corporate positions in future.

Naturally, these people want to hire from IITs itself as a way of giving back, and they try to help out their juniors in every way they possibly can. A good network can help you in ways you can't even imagine.

That was it, wish you good luck!
