Eligibility for JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) that is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) every year. It is an online exam for engineering aspirants who wish to seek admission to the premier engineering institutes in India. However, not all students who appear for JEE Main are eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam.

Eligibility for JEE Advanced

The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced are as follows:

  1. Age limit: The candidate should be of age 25 or less at 1st October of the year. However, there is a relaxation of 5 years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
  2. Qualifying marks in JEE Main: The candidate should have secured a rank in the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main. However, the category-wise distribution of the top 2,50,000 candidates is as follows: 10% for General, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is open for all categories.
  3. Educational qualification: The candidate should have passed class 12th or equivalent examination within 2 years of the JEE Advanced date (the same year or the year before). The minimum aggregate percentage for general candidates is 75% and 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. However, the candidates who have appeared in class 12th or equivalent examination in current year and their result is awaited can also apply.
  4. Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in consecutive years. There are relexations for reserved candidates
  5. Aadhaar card: It is mandatory for the candidates to have a valid Aadhaar card as an identification proof.
